Auto versus manual compact umbrellas
There are two types of compact umbrellas that are very popular in the US market; Auto umbrellas and manual umbrellas. Auto compact umbrellas are those that have a button that you push to make the umbrella open. In some cases, if you click the same button, it will close the compact umbrella as well. Manual compact umbrellas are those where you have to open the umbrella by hand. While they may require a little more man power, these manual compact umbrellas are often significantly cheaper than auto umbrellas. As such, you have to ask yourself the question of price versus convenience. If price is an important factor, than you will want to stick with a manual compact umbrella and if it's convenience, than auto is the way for you to go. Whichever route you choose, just find the compact umbrella that works best for you.
